May 3: IMPORTANT REVISION OF COURSE REQUIREMENTS! In prior terms I required students to fill out a grade sheet to receive their final grades. If you check the course website now, that requirement has been eliminated. Thus, May 11 is the final deadline for all materials and grades will now be posted by May 18th. You are not required to fill out a grade sheet to receive your final grade. Feb. 27: URGENT NEWS for those who use a Suffolk College email address. The system changed about 2 weeks ago, rendering your old email address inactive. If you were using "yourname@students.sunysuffolk.edu" you have to go to the email center on-line and change to the new system, which will read, "yourname@mail.sunysuffolk.edu" or YOU WON'T GET COURSE EMAILS! Please email me to confirm you have changed your Suffolk student email address. Click here to see: the last two emails. Feb 12: Amazing, and indeed, distressing that two people dropped and five others have not sent a first sentence--thesis statement--to indicate they will stay in the class. Those who don't keep the deadlines will be dropped. Yet, the last thing I want to do is spoil your semester! I'm rooting for you. Stick with me--communicate with me--and you will, soon enough, feel comfortable and be writing better. I just want you to learn a very useful and efficient organizational skill. Hey, you guys who never responded to the first requirement--send something, even now, and I will help you get your credit for the course... Feb. 6: This is the first course posting at your news link. We have all our students checked in and today I am sending you all an email to be sure I have your correct email address. If you read this and you didn't get an email from me this Friday, please contact me at axelrodthepoet@yahoo.com to be sure we are in proper touch with each other. Here is the link to the lesson on your thesis for your first paper, which I mention in my communication with you today: Pointers on your thesis.
HAVE YOU EMAILED YOUR CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESS TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR?
YOU ARE NOT OFFICIALLY IN THIS CLASS UNTIL YOU EMAIL ME TO CONFIRM YOUR ENROLLMENT! PLEASE DO SO IMMEDIATELY SO WE CAN SET UP WORKSHOP LISTS AND START THE TERM ON TIME. Until you reach me by email you are not officially in the course! Spring semester up-date: We won't be using D2L system at all. All your course work will be at my two (duplicate) websites. This website will be under construction for the entire semester. That is because, for all the years I have taught at Suffolk (140, give or take 100), and for the six years I have taught on line, I haven't done an on-line composition class yet! I may need your help if links aren't working or you find layout problems. I'd love it if you took the Proofreader's Challenge and kept finding and helping me fix mistakes. If you find material that seems to be from an early semester--errors in days/dates, material that contradicts itself from one page to another... OUCH! That would be exactly the kind of thing you should send to me to fix. For those who find oddities in punctuation--particularly where a quote mark shows up as a question mark on a link--know that I am trying to debug this annoying problem. Eventually that problem (caused by Microsoft smart punctuation that doesn't transfer properly) will also be ironed out. I'm aware of that so you don't have to send me that information for pages. Meanwhile, read the links and lessons and get a start on your assignments! The website is a textbook for the course. Where my lessons give different advice than the printed text, use my advice and instructions instead!
