PROSE FICTION (Story) ASSIGNMENT

By the terms end you should write not less than 10 pages of exercises in fiction.

2-3 pages of a study in the style of an author you admire. Suggested models: Hemingway or Joyce. (click for lesson)

Note: You can pick your own favorite author but please email me a page of the author's work to compare to your exercise.

2-3 pages of a descriptive piece: person (character study); place (setting, dominant impression); activity (put reader in the mind of someone doing an activity).

"The Biographical Fallacy"

Note: You are a painter of portraits, landscapes, events, and your words are the paint! Show don't tell!

2-3 pages (a start at least) on a story of your own.

Note: So what have you been up to? Any style or story will be fine.

Total of all pages should be not less than 10 pages. But... notice that you aren't required to write a 10 page story. Nice if you can do it, but not required!
