Textbook: Please locate and purchase our technical writing textbook. Currently I am using Writing for the Technical Professions by Kristin R. Woolever (ISBN 978-0-321-47747-2) as my own guide book. You can contact Suffolk College Bookstore or go on line to purchase the book. That way you can read the lessons and models in the text to guide you through your own required writing. There is no way that I can tell if you actually buy this book but I consider it required and certainly strongly urge you to buy and even keep it. My guide lessons will be posted on line. (I just got my copy from the bookstore. Brace yourself. It's $84! Still, I think you need it and they have 20 copies I'm told.)

 Objectives:

1. To compose clear writing toward specific, technical uses.

2. To learn to better revise, edit and proofread toward polished writing.

3. To utilize computer and internet skills toward more professional writing and websites.

4. To read and comment on exemplary pieces as well as the writing of fellow students to better understand technical writing.

Procedures:

1. Instructional models  for study are in the required textbook and also posted on line.

2. Workshops will consist of students emailing each other their work and subsequently emailing edits and comments back to each other via regular email.

3  Writing and revision with one-to-one tutorial sessions via email will be basis of your course.

4. Extra credit is available for other appropriate related writing, events and activities.

Requirements:

1. The completion of the first three writing assignments to be fully revised as per form and typed for on-time submission.  Three will be required from those posted with deadlines.   A fourth assignment  is only required if you wish to be eligible for an "A".

2. Workshop exchange and discussions of student work, including workshop critiques.

Deadlines:

Students must pay strict attention to deadlines. An on-line course can not work if you fall behind!

Grading:

To finish you must do all the work; all three required writing assignments. Your three writing assignments will be averaged to determine the grade together with regularity of workshop participation, including extra credit work to raise a grade. Without doing the fourth assignment you can't receive an "A".
