Telecourse Student:
Included in this packet are the instructions pertaining to the ESC101 Telecourse for which you are registered/reviewing. This information should
include the following:
Prior to the first class meeting you should have completed
the following:
- Go to the Media Resources Center in the campus library (Ammerman
Campus). You must pick up your videos for the telecourse. The
library will not release the videos to you without college ID. CALL
(451-4187) TO CONFIRM AVAILABILITY.
- If you do not want to watch the videos on the VHS tapes. The
videos (The Earth Revealed Series) are available for viewing on my website
www2.sunysuffolk.edu/butkosd click on the geology movies link.
- The videos can also be viewed at www.learner.org/resources/series78.html
- You should watch video 1 "Down to Earth", Video 2 "The Restless Planet",
and Video 12 "Minerals". You should read chapters 1 and 3 in the
textbook. You should be comfortable with all of the information
presented in the videos and the textbook.
- You should answer the questions associated with each video and each
textbook chapter. The questions are included in this packet. These
questions will be collected during the first class meeting.
- Visit the college bookstore and pick up the required textbook, laboratory
manual and a compass.
- Read through chapter 3 in the laboratory manual. I will distribute
the mineral kits during the first class meeting. We will review/discuss
the first three videos.
- There will be an examination during the first class. This examination will
cover the material covered in the first reading assignment and the material
covered in the first video assignment.
- As we meet only 7 times during the semester, we will be working at a rapid
pace. Please make sure you have completed all of the required work prior
to arrival for the first class.
Additionally
- You should bring your textbook and laboratory manual to all of the
classes.
- You should bring you mineral kit, textbook, and laboratory manual to the
second and third class meetings.
- You should bring your rock kit, textbook, and laboratory manual to the
third, fourth, and fifth class meetings.
