Ammerman Campus
The Biotechnology Learning Center (BLC), located in the Smithtown Science building at the
Ammerman Campus, was created in 1997 to group all SCCC academic activities involving
Biotechnology and Molecular Biology. The lab is a state of the art molecular biology
laboratory that has been equipped and funded by an NSF grant and is maintained with
funding from federal, state, and county sources, and by private corporations. The lab is
dedicated to providing "hands-on" experience in biotechnology and molecular
biology to students and professionals in all areas and levels of academia.
Feel free to explore the Biotechnology Learning Center
Website. Follow the Navigation bar to LINKS to further
your research. PROGRAMS will
show you all of the events that happen at the BLC, year round, including the impressive BioPREP and
information about LIGASE. Lab Services
provides information for BLC students looking for help with assignments or information
about the companies that supply the BLC. Suffolk County Community College students
looking to become involved in one of the most interesting and advanced courses in the SUNY
system should follow the link to BY29 (ex. BY82): a
biotechnology course that is offered on Long Island, the hotbed of future biotechnological
industrial growth.
Students who participate in the various courses, programs
and activities in the BLC may be interested in Dr. Rosa Gambier's Home Page. There
you will find information about the different courses that she teaches, as well as
assignments and other resources that will help you to prepare for class and exams.
The Biotechnology Learning
Center is part of LIGASE (Long Island Group About Science Education).
