Dr. Easterbrook also responded to me directly (and to all) because of the CC: from President Shepard.  He simply attached the same .pdf file linked in Gareth’s opening sentence which, of course, does not address the concerns we are discussing.  My reply to Dr. Easterbrook and to all appears below:

Dr. Easterbrook and Colleagues,

I have read the attached MS Word document from Dr. Easterbrook and it does nothing to prove his “innocence”.  Please take a few minutes and read the following:

http://hot-topic.co.nz/whose-lie-is-it-anyway-easterbrook-caught-red-handed/

Summary from that link:

“It is quite clear from the evidence that Easterbrook has not only edited these graphics to change the information they contain, but done so in order to minimize the appearance of recent global warming and to support his own oddball contention that global cooling is about to begin.”

Furthermore, Dr. Easterbrook has shown us all that he does not understand the difference between weather (short-term) and climate (long-term).  Ten years of temperature data cannot determine a statistically significant trend.  He really should know this.  See the link below that debunks the “global cooling” myth:

The IPCC models do very well in many projections and they are “on track” with global temperatures.  See:

Then Dr. Easterbrook compounds his confusion by showing significant North American snowfall for Dec-Feb for the past decade although the long-term trend is basically flat.  More importantly he conveniently ignores the more important data that shows there is a statistically significant downward trend in snow cover for the other nine months of the year and melting is far more critical to snow pack than accumulation.  Even in a warmer world, it is cold enough for snow in the winter and with more water vapor in the air and more potent storms, increased winter snowfall is not a surprise.

I debunk nonsense such as that in Dr. Easterbrook’s MS Word file every day on the blogosphere.  I do not write to college presidents often.  I will however write to them when there is willful deceit in their institution’s name.
