REQUIRED ACCESS, TEXTS AND OTHER RESOURCES
Access to a computer, modem (56k is a suggested minimum; DSL or cable modem is ideal) and to the Internet through your own Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Windows 98 for the PC and OS 9.0 for the Mac are considered a minimum for desktop operating systems.
It is also recommended that you use one of two browsers: Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape Communicator/Navigator 6.0 or better. They are available free for download from their websites.
For web page design, if you're not interested in learning raw HTML coding, you might want to purchase a WYSIWYG program, i.e., Microsoft's FrontPage 1.0, Adobe Pagemill 3.0 or Dreamweaver 3.0. These range in price from $49 to $150 ( best prices are usually available on-line) and are available for both Mac and PC. Netscape Communicator 4.0 or better and Internet Explorer 5.0, free to download, also have a minimum web page design programs. You can also create basic html documents in Microsoft Word, available for free on most PCs. Word would be moe than adequate for this course.
You must activate your sunysuffolk.edu e-mail account before the first day of class. See main menu on Suffolk's User page for this information.
Purchase, the text, The Non-Designer's Web Book by Williams and Tollett, an excellent resource for those of us who have little or no web design experience. It gives great suggestions and puts it all in perspective, thereby taking the mystery out of the design and uploading process. It's available at our bookstore or at Amazon. Though I have had no experience with Barnes & Nobel online, I'm sure they would have it as well. It retails for about $30.00.
